Sonia Elguero, MD, Lead Reproductive Endocrinologist

Boston IVF – The Albany Center’s head reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist, Dr. Sonia Elguero is a board-certified Obstetrician and Gynecologist, a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the American Society of Reproductive Medicine.

Dr. Elguero was trained and mentored by the late infertility specialist Peter Horvath, MD who inspired her to help individuals and couples achieve their dreams of becoming parents.

She received her medical degree from Memorial University of Canada – completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Albany Medical Center ““ and her fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility at Case Western Reserve University. She also completed one year of post graduate research at Memorial University, specializing in Cardiovascular Pharmacology.

Dr. Elguero is thrilled to return to the Capital District community where she trained to provide personalized, comprehensive care to her patients.

Steven Bayer, MD, Medical Director & Reproductive Endocrinologist

New SRB2The Medical Director of Boston IVF — The Albany Center, Dr. Bayer is board certified in OB/GYN and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Ohio State University and completed his residency training at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. He then completed his research fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. Dr. Bayer is an Associate Clinical Professor at Harvard Medical School.

Steven Lazarou, MD, Male Fertility Specialist

Steven Lazarou, MDDr. Stephen Lazarou — the head of Boston IVF’s Male Infertility Clinic — is also a Clinical Instructor of Urology at Harvard Medical School and an active staff member at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Lazarou is a member of several professional organizations including the American Urological Association, the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the New England Fertility Society, the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction, and the Sexual Medicine Society. He has written numerous medical articles and recently co-authored a book chapter on the effect of advancing age on male reproduction.

Michael Alper, MD, Reproductive Endocrinologist

new MMA2Dr. Alper co-founded Boston IVF in 1986. Board Certified in Reproductive Endocrinology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, he received his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. He fulfilled his residency at Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, where he also completed his fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. In addition, he completed two years of post-graduate research at the University of Ottawa in Canada. Dr. Alper is an Associate Clinical Professor at Harvard Medical School.

Marsha Forman, Msc, MSPH, Laboratory Administrator & Embryologist

marsha imageMarsha began her career at Boston IVF — The Albany Center in 1999 as an undergraduate student at the University at Albany, where she handled medical filing and drawing blood. Today she oversees the endocrine, andrology and embryology laboratories. She earned an undergraduate degree in anthropology and biology – with a minor in women’s health – from the University of Albany. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Embryology from Leeds Medical School in England (one of the only schools in the world to offer a formal training in human embryology), a Masters in Public Health, and is in the final stages of completing her Doctorate in Public Health and Human Service. Marsha is a member of American Society for Reproductive Medicine, European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, New York Society for Reproductive Medicine, Manhattan Embryology Society, American Public Health Association, Chamber of Commerce Albany, ASRM Environmental Sciences Group, Reproductive Biologists Group and Fertility Preservation Group.

Brent Barrett, Ph.D, Science and Laboratory Director

Brent1Dr. Barrett is responsible for laboratory protocols, quality control, and is involved in several research projects.

Dr. Barrett, who has more than 15 years experience working with mammalian oocytes and embryos, received his doctoral degree in biology from Boston College. He completed postdoctoral studies at the University of Colorado Medical School including basic research in reproductive biology and the control of oocyte maturation.

Michelle Cioffi, LPN, Fertility Nurse

Michelle Cioffi, LPN has over 8 years of experience working in the fertility field. She works closely with our team of fertility doctors and assisting with IVF/IUI cycle plan coordination. She is an advocate for each of our patients, where she helps guide their care and education related to medications, treatment plan options and procedures.

Cayce Beauregard, RN, IUI Clinical Coordinator

Cayce graduated from the Samaritan Hospital School or Nursing, where she cared for patient’s in the OB/GYN unit for 5 years. After experiencing the difficulties of starting her own family, it seemed only natural for Cayce to find herself in a position to help others build their own families. Cayce also runs our H.O.P.E support group

Sheryl Albanese MT, Laboratory Technician

Sheryl grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota and has lived in the Capital District since moving here to attend college in the 1980s. Sheryl is a mother of three and currently resides in Guilderland. She enjoys reading, walking, cooking and spending time with friends and family.

Renee Bessette, Operations Director

Renee was born in Syracuse and raised in the Capital District. She started with Boston IVF — The Albany Center in 1997, and has been grateful for the opportunity to work in various positions within the organization and to grow with the practice over the years. Renee enjoys working with patients to help educate them in one of the many stresses of infertility; mostly notably insurance coverage.
