Ultrasound

A technique which creates images using soundwaves. In gynecology and reproductive medicine it is used for visualizing the ovaries, ovarian follicles, fibroids, and the fetus. Ultrasound is performed either by the transvaginal or transabdominal routes.


Urologist

A surgeon who specializes in problems related to the male urinary and reproductive tracts. (Many urologists may have limited training in male infertility; sub specialized physicians whose practice is entirely limited to male infertility issues provide the most comprehensive and up-to-date care in this field).


Uterus

The reproductive organ that houses, protects and nourishes the developing embryo/fetus. It is a hollow, muscular structure that is part of the female reproductive tract and is the source of a woman's menses.
