Endometriosis & Pelvic Factors

During natural conception and pregnancies conceived through superovulation IUI therapy, successful pregnancy requires a normal or near-normal female pelvic anatomy.

While we can indirectly assess the condition of the fallopian tubes by Hysterosalpingography, we can only directly visualize them by laparoscopy. Laparoscopy is also the only way to directly assess the female pelvis for endometriosis and anatomic factors such as adhesive disease that may reduce fertility.

Because laparoscopy is a major surgical procedure, we do not routinely recommend it as an initial test for most patients. The decision to proceed to laparoscopy is made on a case-by-case basis.
