Attention: Patients that hold NYS Empire Insurance
ALBANY, NY (March 30th, 2010) – As of 4/1/10, your insurance, NYS Empire Employee Plan, will require you to use Accredo Mail Order Pharmacy to fill all fertility medications. Your plan should have notified you already of this upcoming change via a notice in the mail
We feel that it is necessary, however, to inform you that Accredo DOES NOT specialize in fertility and thus they are NOT sensitive to timely delivery of medication. There have been times where Accredo has not been able to deliver meds to a patient on time; in one case, a patient waited 8 days for delivery.
As you know, fertility medication administration is time sensitive and in most cases, you cannot afford to wait 2 days for meds to be delivered before your treatment cycle has been compromised. Therefore, it is extremely important that you contact your primary nurse to initiate new prescriptions to send to Accredo in order for you to establish with them. NYS Empire has communicated to us that Accredo is your ONLY option for filling fertility prescriptions; they will not allow you to fill them locally.
It is our sincerest hope that this transition of pharmacy will not compromise your care. We do highly recommend that you maintain a strict inventory of your medication supply and you call Accredo immediately when refills are needed.
