Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

ICSI involves injecting a single sperm into the center of the egg, using a very fine injection needle. Fertilization rates are like those for cIVF. Success depends on the severity of the sperm disorder and how many good quality, mature eggs are available for injection.

ICSI is a relatively new technique and many countries have closely followed the outcome of pregnancies. Although there is no evidence children face a higher incidence of ill health or handicap, some baby boys born from ICSI could inherit male factor infertility suffered by their fathers.
