Subcutaneous Injection
Giving a Subcutaneous injection:
- Wash hands.
- Reconstitute the medication as you have been directed.
- Choose an injection site as illustrated. Remember to rotate injection sites during the course of your therapy.
- Gently pinch up a small amount of tissue between the thumb and index finger of your non-dominant hand. Wipe the area with alcohol and allow this to dry. Holding the syringe at a 90 degree angle to your body, insert the needle and inject medication. Dispose needle into sharps container.
Slight burning with injection is normal. Notify a nursing staff member if you experience redness, swelling or a rash at the injection site.
