Myomectomy

Myomectomy is a comon surgical procedure for treating uterine fibroids to preserve fertility. Usually we do this procedure by laparotomy, but we may sometimes use laparoscopy or hysteroscopy.

Myomectomy is a difficult procedure and has risks including significant blood loss, infection and uterine injury. Some women may not be able to labor after a major myomectomy procedure because of the uterine weakness resulting from the surgery. Myomectomy, as a surgical intervention, should be discussed at length with the physician before pursuing the procedure.
